Flournoy Fumbles…

Because there is little evidence validating The Book of Mormon, the investigator of this book is forced to seek the answer through prayer and faith, and the resulting reply from God can only strengthen a person’s faith and bring them closer to Christ. For this reason the Standard Works are superior to the Bible when it comes to validating The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Flournoy retreats into the subjective for his justification of his church’s claims. This is convenient for Flournoy, if one simply followed the sacred text of scripture they wouldn’t conclude LDS  system of doctrine, and strange god(s) into  scripture.

Contrary to what Mr. Flournoy thinks, the scripture grounds its truthfulness not in ‘prayer and faith’ and a resulting reply from God but the historical event of the Gospel, which of course contradicts the Gospel of Latter Day Saints.  If the Standard Works validate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then the Bible validates the Church of Jesus Christ in opposition to the LDS, and this doesn’t come through prayer and faith but through the preached Word, and the historical event of the Gospel. This is the central difference between Jews and Christians, and Christians and Mormons.  Not only does our New Testament canon validate our Christian message that Christ is the risen, and reigning Messiah but is proven by the resurrection of this messiah. We don’t appeal to experience for the justification of Christian faith, but an historical event.
